Location Based Services - A Double Edged Sword?

As i mentioned in my last post, the Location Based Services are the standard part of cell phones. your mobile knows your exact location either through GPS or by triangulating on nearby cell towers and Wi-Fi hotspots. That’s going to have big effect on how we live and do business soon.

Companies are already using location services to track mobile employees, and the retailers will be able to use them to push information out to potential customers nearby.

GPS is a double-edged sword - great for business, maybe not so much for individuals, this great service raises some basic concerns about our privacy and personal life. Do you want your boss to be able to know exactly where you are during the working day? Do you want ads blaring out of your cell phone when you’re just driving along, minding your own business?

So, let me ask a few questions to my readers.

1) When do you think location services will start to make a difference in your company, and business partners?

2) Does your company plan to use location services in its business? - How?

3) What are some potential applications for location services in business?

4) In what situations will you be willing to share location information with friends and businesses?

It is the right time to start mobile based business

If you have any business plans for the future, and seeking for a right domain to invest, i would say this is the right time to invest in mobile based business.

Mobile industry is skyrocketing each and every day. and one prediction seems certain - the mobile industry and related business is big and getting even bigger. there are more than 4 billion people with mobile phones, and its far more than the number of personal computers. what we are calling the cell phone is becoming the de facto internet device in near future.

More and more services and applications are emerging day by day. providers are competing each other to give the exceptional services to its customers, like the location based services. location advertising and the GPS based services are also the hottest in the industry.

“We know where you are. If we want to know how many people are in a stadium, how many people are in a supermarket,”  “We can know the speed (of cars). So we can send special kinds of information.”  - See  the words of a major mobile service provider about the present mobile technology based business.

“After all, they know where you are. You’re driving along and it says, ‘Eric, you had pizza yesterday and there’s a hamburger stand on the right.’ In theory location-based advertising will be a very good business and useful to the end user.” - see how it would be the services which comes on your way.
